Date for the 2019 SA Spring Garden Festival has been announced Saturday 21 September.

SA Spring Garden Festival 2018

A perfect spring morning greeted early arrivals to the third SA Spring Garden Festival held in Mount Pleasant last Saturday. The festival was held in conjunction with the popular Mount Pleasant Farmers Market at the township’s picturesque Talunga Park Showgrounds.  The farmers market extended their trading hours to align with the festival times; the combination of both events saw over 100 stallholders , and well over 4000 visitors through the gates.

Project Officer Terese Stephens said, “The sunshine was the extreme opposite to the previous Saturday’s weather, and organisers were ecstatic with the turnaround in temperature.”

The spring sunshine brought crowds from all over South Australia out in their droves, to experience the exceptionally diverse variety of plant and garden wares the festival had to offer, along with the special programmed events for the day.

Crowd favourite & guest speaker Sophie Thomson did not disappoint her large audience, which overflowed the festival marquee, with Spring Festival goers jostling for the best positions to hear the inspirational gardener speak.

Following Sophie, the highly entertaining Dorinda Hafner gave special commentary whilst Yuandamarra Keily from Red Centre Enterprises, produced some delicious bush tucker meals, the banter between the two had the crowd in fits of laughter. Festival goers also took advantage of the opportunity to engage with presenters and chat about subjects raised during their presentations.

Crowds were also given opportunity to learn about sustainable wicking beds with a do it yourself demonstration on the ease of making these particular type of garden beds.   The festival children weren’t forgotten with a special workshop on the art of making floral cupcakes.

Stallholders were extremely satisfied with the day with both the festival & farmers market stallholders recording well above average sales. The combination of the weather, exceptionally broad variety of plant and garden wares, informative guest speakers, the charming venue, the diverse range of stallholders, workshops, food  and entertainment saw the township of Mount Pleasant come alive for the day.

The SA Spring Garden Festival will be held next year September 21 2019; the Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 8am – 12 noon at the Mount Pleasant Showgrounds. For enquiries for either event contact Terese Stephens, 0418 301 121 or email managermpfm@bigpond.com.
